Ceratophora karuis distinguished from other Ceratophora species by having a rudimentary rostral appendage being complex, comprising more scales than rostral scale alone, a dorsal crest well defined, gular scales carinate, smaller than the ventrals. The body color is changeable from blackish brown to olive brown, ventral yellowish brown (Pethiyagoda & Manamendra-Arachchi, 1998).
This species is also known only from a small Morning side forest patch in Sri Lanka, at an elevation of 1060 m; diurnal. 2 eggs are produced at a time, measuring 8.6 - 8.8 x 4.9 – 5.0 mm (Das & De Silva, 2005).
Conservation status: Critically Endangered (Bahir & Surasinghe, 2005; IUCN, 2007).
